Scheme makes it "great time" for first-time buyers to complete purchases

It is currently a "great time" for first-time buyers to secure an off-plan deal on a new home, a property expert has said.

Kevin Ellis, director at New Homes, suggested those interested in a development at Kennet Island in Berkshire would get a particularly attractive deal should they secure a home.

By signing up now but not completing a purchase until the properties are finished next year, first-time buyers are creating an extra 12 months in which to save enough cash.

Mr Ellis stated: "It's the best time to invest - buying at time when houses prices have bottomed out, but they have also got plenty of time to save before they complete."

Two show apartments will open their doors this month for interested parties to take a look at, while similar schemes may be in place across the country.

First-time buyers were given a boost last week when chancellor Alistair Darling announced the stamp duty threshold for those making their first property purchase would rise to £250,000.
